Strike at Machine Sazi Tabriz

Re-post from Shahrokh Zamani Action Campaign

Around 1,600 Machine Sazi Tabriz workers went on strike protesting against unpaid wages and no legal right to strike.

On June 23rd, around 1,600 workers of Machine Sazi Tabriz went on strike demanding two months’ unpaid wages. The protesting workers said that high inflation and continuous price increases have made it extremely difficult for them and their families to make ends meet. They demanded that their back-pay should be paid immediately.

Following this widespread strike – which the Iranian regime’s official media, as usual, described as a “work stoppage” – the authorities of East Azerbaijan province (in north-west Iran) held an emergency meeting of the Provincial Labour Commission to discuss the situation of the factory and its workers’ problems. So far, no news has been published about the outcome of this meeting and its decisions.

Machine Sazi Tabriz has been producing machinery and machine tools since 1969.
