Iran: Yaser Ahmadinejad, militant oil worker, back in jail

Re-post from Shahrokh Zamani Action Campaign

Yaser Ahmadinejad, a militant worker at the Arkan Saless Drilling Company, is now back in jail following his temporary leave.

After he was arrested in February 2026, Yaser Ahmadinejad was sentenced to 42 months* in jail. He has been serving his sentence in Yasuj prison, in south-western Iran.

Iran’s blood-soaked regime began arresting and harassing Yaser Ahmadinejad ever since he recorded a short video message in early June 2024, in which he respectfully voiced the oil industry’s contract workers’ basic demands. Later that month, on June 21st, thousands of skilled contract workers in the petrochemical industry went on strike. The strike kept growing until over 20,000 workers from around 100 contractors were involved.

The Shahrokh Zamani Action Campaign strongly condemns the arrest and harassment of Yaser Ahmadinejad and all other labour activists in Iran. We demand that all trumped-up charges against labour activists are dropped immediately and unconditionally, all sacked workers return to work and all political prisoners are freed. We urge all trade unionists, socialists and other political activists to help us in defending the rights of all workers, political prisoners and social rights’ activists in Iran.

* The sentence has now been confirmed as 42 months, rather than 33 months.
