Farhad Meysami has vowed to continue his hunger strike until the Iranian regime’s prison officials meet his three demands.
On February 2 Farhad Meysami, an imprisoned doctor, wrote a letter to prison officials maintaining that “I still insist on my three demands of stopping the execution of protesters, freeing six political prisoners, and stopping the mandatory hijab.” His letter was published together with the photos that show him looking emaciated, frail and sickly.
Dr Meysami was jailed in August 2018. He was sentenced to six years for supporting women protesting against the Iranian regime’s compulsory hijab laws. He was charged with “spreading propaganda against the system” and “colluding to commit crimes against national security” as well as for “insulting Islamic sanctities.” He is currently in Karaj’s Rajaei-Shahr prison and has been beaten by guards because of his resistance to being transferred to the criminals’ ward.
The Shahrokh Zamani Action Campaign strongly condemns the arrest and continuing detention of Farhad Meysami and calls for his immediate and unconditional release. We urge all trade unionists, socialists and other political activists to help us in defending the rights of all workers, political prisoners and social rights’ activists in Iran.
