The Nigerian government and police forces have brutally cracked down on the #EndBadGovernance protest movement. Please sign the appeal to drop all charges and release all jailed activists!
The Nigerian people face an unbearable situation: mass poverty and hunger, unemployment, rising inflation, widespread corruption, continuous killings and attacks by thugs. The Tinumbu government has made matters even worse for working people in the 15 months since it was elected in office.
Nigerian people have taken to the streets since August 1st to protest for all these problems. They were met with extreme police violence, resulting in the death of 50 protesters across the country. Since then, the government, the police and security agencies have been trying to intimidate the movement. There have been mass arrests, jailings and court cases. They raided trade union centers and even arrested Joe Ajaero, the Nigerian Labour Congress president.
Some of the activists arrested could even be charged with treason, which carries a possible death penalty.
Union members, elected Councilors and members of Parliament, public figures (academics, artists, ect) can sign the following appeal in order to put as much pressure as possible on the Nigerian government, judiciary and police to stop the clampdown on protesters.
Sign the appeal:
- Drop all charges and release all jailed for the #EndBadGovernance protests
- Stop the intimidation of activists and socialists
- Stop police violence on protesters, no restriction on the democratic right to protest
The 10 protesters that are presented as the leaders of the plot and could face treason charges are:
Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye (aka Lenin), Adeyemi Abiodun Abayomi (aka Yomi), Suleiman Yakubu, Opaluwa Eleojo Simeon, Angel Love Innocent, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello (aka Murtala), Nuradeen Khamis, Abdulsalam Zubairu.
Their trial has been commenced for September 27 and a 10 million Naira bail has been implemented.
But many more remain detained and do not know if they will face trial on trumped up charges as war plotting, terrorism, treason and an attempt to topple President Bola Tinubu.
